Junee Seniors marks 70 years of bringing Junee’s older residents together

Barb Guthrie has a simple hope for Junee’s older residents.

“There are old people in our Junee community, living alone, and I’d love to encourage them out of their houses to mix socially,” the Treasurer of Junee Seniors Inc said at the organisation’s 70th Birthday Lunch on 24 September 2026, held at the Seniors Hall in Lisgar Street.

That desire to bring older people together has been part of Junee Seniors’ story for 70 years.

The organisation began in 1956 as the “Old Age and Invalid Pensioners Association of Australia, NSW Division, Junee Branch”, at a time when government departments were still catching up with the needs of older people. A Morning at the Pictures for Junee Seniors’ 70th Birthday

The Junee Seniors’ 70th birthday celebrations commenced on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, with a fabulous morning at the Athenium Theatre in Junee, where community members gathered to watch Australia and enjoy time together.

The special movie morning brought people together for a relaxed social occasion, with morning tea served as part of the celebrations. It was another opportunity to mark seven decades of Junee Seniors and the friendships and community connections that have been at the heart of the organisation.

A highlight of the morning was the cutting of the birthday cake by Secretary Trish Davies, President Donna Bedingfield and the organisation’s eldest member, Marg Schubach, while Treasurer Barbara Guthrie looked on.

The gathering reflected the spirit of Junee Seniors’ 70th anniversary: bringing people together, celebrating the organisation’s history and creating opportunities for community members to enjoy one another’s company.

Junee Seniors Hosts Grant Acknowledgement Luncheon (5-Aug-2025)

On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, the Junee Seniors hosted a “Grant Acknowledgement Luncheon” to say thank you to some of the organisations that have funded various of the projects under our “Bring the Junee Seniors Hall in to the 21st Century” strategy.

Kyle from GrainCorp, along with John and Rebecca from the Junee Ex-Services Memorial Club, attended the lunch and our grant writers and project managers Janice, Nicholas, and Ben were also present; along with our committee and many members of the Junee Seniors.

New Storage Upgrades for Junee Seniors Hall thanks to a $2,100 grant from Junee Ex-Services Memorial Club

Thanks to a $2,100 grant through ClubGrants Category 1 & 2 via the Junee Ex-Services Memorial Club, the Junee Seniors were able to purchase a number of cabinets and tubs to increase the storage facilities within the Junee Seniors Hall.

New Crockery, Cutlery, Glassware, and Tableware for Junee Seniors thanks to $2,500 Grant from ARTC Inland Rail

Inland Rail

Thanks to a $2,500 grant through the ARTC Inland Rail Community Grants Program; the Junee Seniors have purchased modern and matching commercial grade crockery, cutlery, glassware, and tableware for the Junee Seniors’ Hall.

This project is just one of many that have been recently undertaken by the Junee Seniors to bring ourselves, and our hall, in to the 21st Century.
